What Are My Options for Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation?
There are several ways in which you may rejuvenate your appearance that do not involve surgery. These include fillers, such as Botox or Juvaderm, chemical peels of various types, and laser hair removal.
Rather than allowing a nurse to inject patients with fillers or administer other facial rejuvenation techniques as some plastic surgeons do, these procedures are always performed by either Dr. Singh or Dr. Abboushi to insure maximum effectiveness and safety.
Botox is a non-surgical treatment for wrinkles, injected typically on the forehead and near lateral eyelids. Botox works by inhibiting the muscles from contracting, thereby preventing wrinkles. Botox’s results are almost instantaneous and provide the patient with results that may last anywhere from 3-6 months. Recovery time is typically minimal, allowing patients to resume their usual activities soon after the procedure.
Other injectables, such as Allegan or Juvaderm, are used to fill in areas that have been depleted in the aging process, or to fill in creases to make them appear less visible. The most common areas treated with fillers include the area below the eyelids (“bags”) or the nasolabial creases that extend from the nose to the lips. The results can be very dramatic. Juvaderm lasts for approximately 6 months. Downtime is minimal, with some transient swelling after the procedure. Other areas targeted include the jawline, nasal humps, and the cheekbones.
Chemical peels may be performed as an adjunct to other surgical rejuvenation procedures or alone. Chemical peels involve the removal of the upper layers of the skin to promote new skin regrowth. The result is a beautiful and restored youthful appearance to the skin. There are many different types of chemical peels on the market today. Our doctors will discuss which type of chemical peel is right for you.
–Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal involves using a pulse of laser light to inhibit hair regrowth over time. On average it takes anywhere from 6-10 sessions for completion. Common areas treated include the bikini region, underarms, legs, arms, and face.
Recovery may include some redness or irritation at treatment sites, but this typically passes within a few days.
What About Pain?
Pain is typically minimal for non-surgical rejuvenation procedures. Discomfort can usually be treated with non-prescription drugs and products created specifically for the procedures. Some procedures, such as chemical peels, are more uncomfortable than painful and require a bit more recovery time.
When Will I See Results?
Most patients will see almost immediate results from non-surgical facial rejuvenation, with results increasing in appearance as healing occurs.
