Planning Your Recovery: When To Schedule Your Facelift Procedure?

Planning a Facelift

Most people like to have a plan. Vacations, birthdays, time off work. But what about your facelift? Facelifts often require a lengthy recovery time. With the cold weather and holidays coming, now is the perfect time to schedule your facelift!

A facelift typically involves incisions placed in front of and behind your ear. Your surgeon will remove excess skin, tightening the underlying tissue for a long-lasting result. This improves jowls (excess skin around the jawline) as well as contours the nasolabial crease (the line that extends from your nose to your mouth).

Many patients choose to schedule their facelift in the winter because they have more time to relax and recover. The children are in school and friends or family can take off work to help the patient recuperate for the first several days. Bruising and swelling are normal and may not subside for a few weeks.

The incisions will begin to improve during weeks 3 and 4 of your recovery. This is when many people return to work or social activities; though swelling may still be present. After about a month of recovery, your face will look ‘normal’ as the effects of your facelift gradually begin to take place. Scars may still be slightly visible up to a year after surgery.

While winter can be a great time to schedule a facelift, we recommend not rushing into any surgical procedure before a big event – such as a high school reunion or office holiday party. You may be disappointed if healing takes longer than you anticipated. During your individual consultation, Dr. Singh & Dr. Abboushi can give you more insight into planning the procedure and recovery time.

Facelift Options

Many patients choose to pair their facelift with Ultherapy or Kybella. Kybella is an injection that is used to reduce the appearance of a double chin. Ultherapy is a procedure for toning, tightening, and lifting the skin. Neither procedure will lengthen your recovery time, in fact, they will enhance your results.
