Breast augmentation can go by several different names. Names like breast enhancement and boob job are common colloquial names for this popular procedure. According to the most recent survey by the American Society for Plastic Surgery (ASPS), breast augmentation topped the list as the # 1 most performed cosmetic surgical procedure.
The reason it has become such a popular procedure is the consistency with which a trained plastic surgeon can achieve optimal results. These consistent results, along with high patient satisfaction, continue to make breast augmentation a popular treatment option for individuals seeking to enhance their natural shape or restore their breast to a former state after pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Breast Augmentation Consultation
Our consultations are always performed by either Dr. Kimberly Singh or Dr. Nour Abboushi. We block ample time in our schedule for you to meet with our board-certified plastic surgeons and ask as many questions as you need in order to feel confident about this procedure. During the consultation, our surgeons will discuss your goals for the surgery and educate you on all the options available based on your feedback. We allow you time to try on different sizes of implants if you wish to do so. This helps both you and our surgeons understand the “look” you are trying to achieve plus the size of implants to use during the surgery. You will also have a chance to meet our Patient Care Coordinator that will be with you every step of the way through the consultation process. Our goal is to educate, inform, and support your decision in every way possible once you become a member of our family.
Options for breast augmentation
There are several different options when it comes to performing a breast augmentation. Generally, these options can be broken down into two distinct categories. First, would be the type of implant used for the augmentation. Second would be the placement of the implant in the breast area.
Saline vs. Silicone
First, a patient must work with their plastic surgeon to determine which breast implant type is going to work best for their specific body type. Implants come in two different types: Saline and Silicone. The type of implant you and our surgeons choose will be based on your particular body type and goals. We have written an in-depth blog on saline vs silicone here for more information. The key to choosing the correct type of implant is an open discussion with our board-certified plastic surgeons and understanding the advantages and disadvantages of both types of implants.
Texture vs. Smooth
Given the recent FDA letter regarding textured implants and their association with BIA-ALCL, we will not place any textured implants in the future.
If you currently have textured breast implants and want them removed, then please contact us. We specialize in breast implant revision surgery.
Under the muscle (submuscular) vs. Over the muscle (subglandular)
There is a lot of information online regarding the benefits of one of these methods versus the other. The honest truth is that the ideal placement of the implant is going to be determined based on your specific goals and body type. Our plastic surgeons do not perform “Cookie Cutter” surgery. We assess each individual uniquely and determine a treatment plan based on that individual’s specific needs.
Furthermore, we specialize in dual-plane breast augmentation here at Panacea Plastic Surgery. This technique allows us the best of both worlds as we can derive the benefits of both approaches with this single technique.
Candidates for a Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is a popular plastic surgery procedure designed to enhance the size and shape of your breasts. Patients desiring breast implants typically want to have larger breasts with improved cleavage and improved shape. Breast augmentation can also restore breast size when pregnancy and/or weight loss have removed the fullness from the upper portion of their breasts.
The Breast Augmentation Procedure
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and takes place in one of our partner hospitals with board-certified anesthesiologists and CRNA’s. These facilities are all accredited by either the Joint Commission or DNV GL, and adhere to all state regulatory guidelines for optimal patient care.
The length of the procedure is generally between 1 – 2 hours, and you are given a compression bra garment to assist in the healing process after surgery.
Your prescription medications are called into your pharmacy of choice before the surgery, and we recommend obtaining these medications before your surgery so that you can recover after the surgery.
Breast Augmentation Recovery
Breast augmentation is an outpatient surgery, and you will go home the same day as your procedure. Recovery times may vary, but, on average, most patients are back to work within a few days.
