Gynecomastia (Male Breast Reduction)
Gynecomastia is swelling of the breast tissue in men and boys that is caused by an imbalance of the hormones estrogen and testosterone. It can affect one or both breasts, sometimes unevenly. Boys going through puberty and older men may develop Gynecomastia as a result of abnormal changes in hormone levels, though other causes, such as extreme weight loss, may also exist.
Candidates For Male Breast Reduction
Breast reduction surgery is not limited to women by any means. It is a common procedure performed on men and boys who have a condition called Gynecomastia.
Generally, gynecomastia isn’t a serious problem, however, many men find themselves so embarrassed by this condition that they avoid sports and activities, and even intimacy. If you are experiencing discomfort or pain from your breasts or are embarrassed for them to be seen, male breast reduction is a viable option for you.
Male breast reduction for Gynecomastia is typically performed under anesthesia as an outpatient surgery. You may need to wear a surgical vest to reduce swelling and help the skin contract after surgery. You should be able to return to non-strenuous activity within 5-7 days. Your doctor will discuss pain management with you during your consultation.
