How Long Before I Can Return To Work After A Breast Augmentation?

1/6/2018

Before Deciding on Breast Augmentation

Thinking about undergoing breast augmentation? An important thing to consider with any surgical procedure is recovery time, with that comes how much time you’ll need to take off work. Though breast augmentation surgery has a relatively easy recovery, there are some activities you should avoid while recovering.

Breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia and you will be able to go home the same day as your procedure. Recovery times may vary, but, on average, most patients are back to work within a few days, assuming you don’t perform manual labor at your job. After 3-5 days, you should be off pain medications and ready to walk around. Typing and sitting at a computer will not damage your new breasts. Your doctor will give you permission to go back to work a few days after surgery, depending on the physical activity required at your place of work.

After Breast Augmentation

After surgery, you’ll want to avoid lifting heavy objects for a few weeks. Lower body exercise should be avoided for 4 weeks after breast augmentation. Weight lifting, chest exercises, jogging, or swimming should be delayed for roughly 6 weeks to allow for further healing and prevent the implants from shifting.

It’s extremely important to follow your surgeon’s instructions during your recovery period. Rushing back to work or exercise can damage the incisions or your results.
