High BMI Tummy Tuck in Atlanta, GA

Many patients tell us they have been disqualified from plastic surgery because of a higher BMI. As a body-positive plastic surgery practice, we work with our patients individually and do not view them as simply numbers on a scale. Therefore, Drs. Abboushi and Singh do not use an arbitrary weight or BMI limit to determine whether or not their patients can receive surgical services.

After undergoing plus-size plastic surgery, we have been fortunate to witness life-changing results in our higher-BMI patient community. And we're here to tell you that overweight, healthy individuals can be eligible for High BMI Abdominoplasties, large-volume liposuction, lipo 360, and various other procedures.

At Panacea, we welcome and respect all and are here to help our patients achieve their aesthetic goals regardless of the number they see on the scale. Because at our practice, we truly believe that "Every BODY deserves respect™."

A year ago I had the opportunity to have a virtual appointment with Dr. Singh of Panacea Surgery. Her personalized treatment and professionalism made all the difference and made made my decision in scheduling a tummy tuck plus. Following her recommendations in travel from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 made feel very confident especially on how the warmth of the staff and how they make you feel at home. 6 months ago I had the surgery with excellent results. I feel happy, I feel more confident and I feel beautiful. I went to my follow-up appointment and everything is perfect. Thank you, Dr. Singh for all the attention and care, and especially thank you to all the staff and team that supported me through this process. 💯recommended!

Dr Abboushi is an awesome doctor. I had a tummytuck with lippo on the flanks. I can not be anymore happy with my results. Dr. Abboushi has the best bedside manners. He listens to you and answers any questions you may have. He is also easy to reach after hours. His staff is just as wonderful. I would highly reccomend him to anyone.

I went to Panacea in May for a tummy tuck and when I say Dr. A is the absolute best, it would be an understatement. My results are way more than I could expect. His bedside manner is phenomenal and no matter what the question or concern was Dr A. answered with such love and compassion. I'm so happy to have met the entire Panacea family from Kristin to Siri to Dr. A and Dr. Singh. I will be returning for part two of my journey and I can't wait to see my results.

Went in for a consultation in July and got a tummy tuck September, performed by Dr. Abboushi. I'll start by saying Dr. Abboushi is very conservative and practices with your overall health as his number one concern! As a 44 year old diabetic I truly appreciated his approach. At 3 months post op I am extremely pleased with my results thus far, and the ENTIRE staff (special shout out to Brooke and Amber) were absolutely perfect. I'd recommend Panacea to my own family and friends-

High BMI Abdominoplasties (Abdominoplasty)

High BMI Abdominoplasties are one of our most requested surgeries and a specialty of our doctors. Types of high BMI abdominoplasties include:

  • Standard High BMI Abdominoplasties
  • High BMI Circumferential Abdominoplasties
  • Plus-size Extended / Fleur-de-Lis tummy tucks
  • Limited vertical incision abdominoplasties

High-BMI Liposuction

High-BMI liposuction, also known as high-volume lipo or plus-size liposuction, is a plastic surgery procedure performed on plus-sized patients requiring a greater-than-average amount of fat removal to contour their bodies effectively. In this case, plus-size is defined by BMI and references women and men who are in the overweight or obese BMI categories.

Large-volume lipo generally means the removal of five or more liters of fat, but the total amount removed always varies based on an individual's needs and goals. Some may also refer to this as an extreme liposuction. However, our doctors only perform safe liposuction and always consider their patient's health and well-being the most important aspect of any procedure. Therefore, we do not advertise high-BMI lipo as extreme, even in high-volume cases.

High-BMI Lipo 360 / Circumferential Liposuction / Hourglass Liposuction

Plus-Size Lipo 360 is a liposuction procedure that removes fat to create a more hourglass contour around the waist for patients in the overweight or obese BMI categories. Since this area encircles the entire midsection 360 degrees, it was nicknamed lipo 360. For those who require more than 4L of fat removed, it is considered large- or high-volume liposuction.

While it may sound like a special surgical technique, at its core, it's simply liposuction surgery meant to address multiple areas at once, including the stomach, flanks, and back.

High BMI Fleur-de-Lis Tummy Tucks / Extended Abdominoplasty

A standard tummy tuck only addresses the front of the abdomen in the stomach area, with an incision that runs from hipbone to hipbone. Plus-size fleur-de-lis tummy tucks (also called extended tummy tucks, as the name implies, extend farther around the sides. This helps to address excess skin in the flank area, leading to a more contoured waistline.

A vertically extended abdominoplasty may be indicated depending on the patient's needs. This requires a midline, vertical incision that starts from the main horizontal incision and can run as high up as the bottom of the breastbone. These types of tummy tucks are most common after a patient has lost an exceptional amount of weight, often resulting from weight loss surgery.

What Can I Expect After a High BMI Tummy Tuck?

When high BMI tummy tuck surgery is completed, you will be carefully examined and sent home wearing a compression device to minimize swelling. Walking and standing will be difficult at first, so you should take it easy for a few days. Standing and moving becomes less painful once the tightness subsides and the incision begins to heal. You should be able to resume normal activities within two weeks. When cleared by Dr. Abboushi or Dr. Singh, exercise can begin around eight weeks. The abdominal area will feel tight and uncomfortable, but you will feel normal once healed.

Like any surgical procedure, high BMI tummy tuck surgery carries certain risks, which Dr. Singh and Dr. Abboushi at Panacea Plastic Surgery will thoroughly discuss during your consultation. What pre-operative preparations are recommended for high BMI patients undergoing a tummy tuck?

Pre-operative preparation for high BMI patients is comprehensive to ensure optimal outcomes and minimize risks. Patients are often advised to achieve a stable weight and maintain it for several months before surgery. Nutritional counseling may be provided to ensure the patient is in the best possible health. Smoking cessation is strongly recommended, as smoking can significantly impair healing. Our surgeons may also require a thorough medical evaluation to assess overall health and identify any conditions that could complicate surgery or recovery, such as diabetes or cardiovascular issues.

Can a high BMI tummy tuck help with related health issues, such as back pain or skin infections?

While the primary goal of a high BMI tummy tuck is to improve the abdominal contour, patients may experience additional health benefits. Reducing excess abdominal skin and fat can alleviate back pain caused by the weight and strain on the spine. It can also reduce the occurrence of skin infections and irritations in the folds of excess skin. However, these benefits vary among patients, and it is important to have realistic expectations. Patients should discuss their specific health concerns with their surgeon to understand how the procedure may impact them.

What lifestyle changes should high BMI patients consider after a tummy tuck to maintain their results?

Post-surgery, high BMI patients should adopt a healthy lifestyle to maintain the results of their tummy tuck. This includes following a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains while avoiding excessive calories and unhealthy foods. Regular physical activity is crucial, starting with gentle exercises and gradually increasing intensity as the body heals. Patients should also stay hydrated, avoid smoking, and limit alcohol consumption. Maintaining a stable weight is essential to prevent stretching of the newly tightened abdominal area. Additionally, regular follow-ups with the surgeon can help monitor progress and address any concerns promptly.
