What Is The Difference Between Botox And Dermal Fillers?

7/7/2017

Botox vs. Fillers

Whether you are trying to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, or simply refresh your look, facial injections can quickly provide the results you are looking for. However, when trying to decide between Botox or dermal injections, many people get confused. What are the differences between Botox  and dermal fillers? We have put together all of the important details so you can choose which is best for you.

Botox

Botox  is a purified protein that is used to relax the facial muscles that cause wrinkles and fine lines. Botox is typically for patients that are looking to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while at the same time rejuvenating their face. The Botox is injected into the muscles by a specialist, typically the frown lines in between the eyebrows or around the eyes to reduce crow’s feet. There is really no downtime required after a Botox injection, but there could be slight bruising or swelling following the procedure. Most people will notice results for about 3 to 6 months.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are different from Botox in that they are designed to fill in trouble areas with collagen, instead of reducing the movement of the muscles. By injecting the filler into the treatment area, the body’s natural collagen production is stimulated, which plumps the skin and adds firmness to its texture. As the filler continues to stimulate collagen growth, the skin will see additional improvement in firmness and volume. There are multiple types of fillers available, including:

  • JUVÉDERM Vollure (treats moderate to severe parentheses lines and wrinkles by adding volume to the skin around the nose and mouth)
  • JUVÉDERM VOLUMA (corrects age-related volume loss by adding volume to the cheek area)
  • JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA™ (treats the appearance of vertical lip lines and adds subtle volume to the lips)
  • JUVÉDERM XC (smoothes moderate to severe wrinkles and parentheses lines around the nose and mouth)
  • JUVÉDERM Ultra XC (smoothes moderate to severe parentheses lines as well as adds fullness to lips)

At Panacea Plastic Surgery, only Dr. Abboushi and Dr. Singh, both board-certified plastic surgeons, perform the injections, instead of a nurse or physician’s assistant as other clinics often do. Both doctors have studied facial anatomy for years and are experts in this field, so you can rest assured that you will receive successful and safe results.
