High BMI Tummy Tuck in Atlanta, GA

Many patients tell us they have been disqualified from plastic surgery because of a higher BMI. As a body-positive plastic surgery practice, we work with our patients individually and do not view them as simply numbers on a scale. Therefore, Drs. Abboushi and Singh do not use an arbitrary weight or BMI limit to determine whether or not their patients can receive surgical services.

After undergoing plus-size plastic surgery, we have been fortunate to witness life-changing results in our higher-BMI patient community. And we're here to tell you that overweight, healthy individuals can be eligible for plus-size tummy tucks, large-volume liposuction, lipo 360, and various other procedures.

At Panacea, we welcome and respect all and are here to help our patients achieve their aesthetic goals regardless of the number they see on the scale. Because at our practice, we truly believe that "Every BODY deserves respect™."

The primary qualifications for plus-size plastic surgery, including tummy tucks and liposuction, include:

  • Medical clearance from your primary care provider that states you are healthy enough to undergo surgery
  • Excellent physical and emotional health
  • Non-smoker
  • Able to maintain a stable body weight
  • Understanding of the procedure and recovery
  • You are not pregnant or planning to become pregnant

We scheduled a consultation (during COVID-19) and the energy Dr. Kim Singh and her Assistant was able to provide through a video consultation was top tier; it made me feel very comfortable. It was professional, yet relaxed and inviting. I knew I was making the correct choice to have Dr. Kim & her practice perform my surgery. You can tell it was genuine as the energy was maintained throughout every office visit, surgery and follow up visit with  everyone from her PA (who has phenom style!!), to the office staff (Iman Park),  her business partner and hospital of choice (Emory). That was the other thing that made their office stand out from the rest,  her surgery assistant is her business partner - another plastic surgeon, so technically your surgery is being performed by TWO highly skilled plastic surgeons. It’s like Atlanta’s very own Nip Tuck without the drama.I would definitely recommend their practice and have to several who have asked. Thelma & Louise have never looked and felt better!! Thanks Dr. Kim!

Dr. Singh and her nurse Amber are awesome. The entire team is great. My procedure was TT and she was very professional and caring. I do think the staff at the surgery center need to be more like them. The nurse thy was in the after care area was not helpful. I had to put my clothes on myself and I almost blank out on the floor. I had to put myself in a chair. This doesn’t take away from Panacea Plastic that are good..

Dr Abboushi is an awesome doctor. I had a tummytuck with lippo on the flanks. I can not be anymore happy with my results. Dr. Abboushi has the best bedside manners. He listens to you and answers any questions you may have. He is also easy to reach after hours. His staff is just as wonderful. I would highly reccomend him to anyone.

I am 3 week post tummy tuck and I am so happy with how everything has turned out! Dr. Abboushi has the best bed side manners I have ever experienced with a doctor in my life. The entire staff at Panacea Plastic Surgery is so sweet and attentive. They will take the time to answer any question you have. After a year of researching for perfect surgeon, I knew Dr. Abboushi was the perfect one when he met with me a second time, for free, to answer more questions and not try to sell me on the surgery; he was so incredibly kind to me. He is truly an expert on the procedure and recovery. My confidence in him was further increased when I went in for my pre operative appointment at Emory and all the nurses and anesthesiologist were just so genuinely impressed with Dr. Abboushi and Dr. Singh’s kindness and work. Thank you!!

Plus-Size Tummy Tucks (Abdominoplasty)

Plus-size tummy tucks are one of our most requested surgeries and a specialty of our doctors. Types of high BMI abdominoplasties include:

  • Standard plus-size tummy tucks
  • High BMI Circumferential Abdominoplasties
  • Plus-size Extended / Fleur-de-Lis tummy tucks
  • Limited vertical incision abdominoplasties

High-BMI Liposuction

High-BMI liposuction, also known as high-volume lipo or plus-size liposuction, is a plastic surgery procedure performed on plus-sized patients requiring a greater-than-average amount of fat removal to contour their bodies effectively. In this case, plus-size is defined by BMI and references women and men who are in the overweight or obese BMI categories.

Large-volume lipo generally means the removal of five or more liters of fat, but the total amount removed always varies based on an individual's needs and goals. Some may also refer to this as an extreme liposuction. However, our doctors only perform safe liposuction and always consider their patient's health and well-being the most important aspect of any procedure. Therefore, we do not advertise high-BMI lipo as extreme, even in high-volume cases.

High-BMI Lipo 360 / Circumferential Liposuction / Hourglass Liposuction

Plus-Size Lipo 360 is a liposuction procedure that removes fat to create a more hourglass contour around the waist for patients in the overweight or obese BMI categories. Since this area encircles the entire midsection 360 degrees, it was nicknamed lipo 360. For those who require more than 4L of fat removed, it is considered large- or high-volume liposuction.

While it may sound like a special surgical technique, at its core, it's simply liposuction surgery meant to address multiple areas at once, including the stomach, flanks, and back.

High BMI Fleur-de-Lis Tummy Tucks / Extended Abdominoplasty

A standard tummy tuck only addresses the front of the abdomen in the stomach area, with an incision that runs from hipbone to hipbone. Plus-size fleur-de-lis tummy tucks (also called extended tummy tucks, as the name implies, extend farther around the sides. This helps to address excess skin in the flank area, leading to a more contoured waistline.

A vertically extended abdominoplasty may be indicated depending on the patient's needs. This requires a midline, vertical incision that starts from the main horizontal incision and can run as high up as the bottom of the breastbone. These types of tummy tucks are most common after a patient has lost an exceptional amount of weight, often resulting from weight loss surgery.

What Can I Expect After a High BMI Tummy Tuck?

When high BMI tummy tuck surgery is completed, you will be carefully examined and sent home wearing a compression device to minimize swelling. Walking and standing will be difficult at first, so you should take it easy for a few days. Standing and moving becomes less painful once the tightness subsides and the incision begins to heal. You should be able to resume normal activities within two weeks. When cleared by Dr. Abboushi or Dr. Singh, exercise can begin around eight weeks. The abdominal area will feel tight and uncomfortable, but you will feel normal once healed.
